Sanctuary service

Greetings friends,
I am thinking about putting together a Sanctuary for Goa Gil to offer some service in case you or one of your friends run into a difficult psychedelic experience (a.k.a. “bad trip”, although this term is very misleading). I have done this kind of work in the Sanctuary at Burningman this year and trained by MAPS to act as a sitter. I know some of you have done it as well and you are welcome to participate.

What is a “Sanctuary”?
A Sanctuary is a safe and comfortable space in which a person can relax and deal with whatever uncomfortable experiences arise during a psychedelic trip. It can be used to just pass the time until the effects of the sacrament are less intense, or as a place to deal with what comes up and use it for personal growth. A psychedelic experience that starts bad doesn’t have to end this way. If the person is open to the idea that the right work can transform the experience into a positive one, then this journey can be very rewarding.

What will be available during Goa Gil?
I plan to be on site between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon and offer “Pearl” my camper van as a safe place to relax if the need arises. It will have a comfortable bed, warm blankets, hot tea, some food, music and other distractions. If you or one of your friends find yourselves in a difficult situation, feel free to find me and I will make it available. If you feel comfortable about it, I will gladly sit and work with you. Otherwise, I might explain the basics to someone you trust so you can use the space to work by yourselves.

Do you want to learn more?
If you want to learn more about how to assist someone who is going through a rough time, please find me and we can set a time to have a discussion about it. Although I am not qualified to train people to be sitters, I can share my own experiences and pass on what I have learned. Also, I would recommend to anyone who uses psychedelics to see the following educational video: www.maps.org/wwpe_vid/
Our community should be able to handle most of these situations internally, and safely guide our members through difficult times without involving external medical or psychiatric authorities (which sometime cause more harm then good).

Want to help with this project?
Please contact me.

Blessings

    A few clarifications:

I do not encourage or condemn the use of psychedelics, but acknowledge the fact that mind-altering substances might be used regardless of their illegality.

This is an ad-hoc project that was only started today so the Sanctuary will probably be able to handle 2 people simultaneously at most – still better than nothing. It will focus on assisting those who need assistance.

If all goes well and we see the value in this service, we might expand the project in the future so that next time we will be able to provide an environment for intentional and planned exploration of non-ordinary reality. When this happens we will do our best to provide a safe and nourishing atmosphere to all fellow explorers.

a very good idea yariv, a close friend of mine worked with sanctuary on the playa as well. she told me a horror story where the rangers were trying to push somebody out of the Sanctuary in restraints when all they needed was someone to talk them through their "experience". My friend fought with the authorities until she was given the ability to take the person for a much needed walk and talk to bring them back to earth. thank god she did, cause the cops were getting excited about the idea of sedating this person and hauling them to reno prison.

the authorities have no idea how to handle this shit, they just try to tranquilize you long enough to put the handcuffs on you, then take you to jail for illicit substance use.
